Dr Shamie Zingore is the Director of Research and Development at the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI), headquartered in Benguérir, Morocco. He is an internationally recognised expert in soil fertility management and played a key role in introducing the 4R Nutrient Stewardship programme in Africa. With over two decades of research experience, Dr Zingore has collaborated with a vast network of international institutions to conduct groundbreaking applied research. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of innovations in nutrient management and nutrient use efficiencies in smallholder farming systems across Africa.

Dr Zingore’s plant nutrition research has been vital in guiding major regional research and development investments and influencing policies that aim to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers while addressing the pressing challenges of food insecurity, land degradation and climate change in the region.

In his current position, he leads and coordinates programmes that promote sustainable plant nutrient management in Africa through research, education and outreach initiatives. Prior to joining APNI, he served as the Regional Director for the sub-Saharan Africa region at the International Plant Nutrition Institute. He has also worked as a scientist at the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture. Dr Zingore holds a PhD in Soil Science and Farming Systems Analysis from Wageningen University, along with an MSc and BSc in Soil Science from the University of Zimbabwe. He has authored over 60 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to numerous book chapters and extension publications.
